Northland Communications Achieves All Fiber Certification from the Fiber Broadband Association
Fiber-optic technology is the future of connectivity, and Northland Communications is at the forefront of this transformation. Northland has been recognized with the All Fiber Network Operator Certification by the Fiber Broadband Association (FBA). This milestone highlights Northland’s dedication to delivering fast, reliable, and future-proof broadband services to local businesses and residents.
The certification isn’t just a badge of honor; it’s a reflection of Northland’s commitment to ensuring that communities across the Central New York and Mohawk Valley regions have access to top-tier fiber infrastructure. With over 1,200 miles of fiber and cutting-edge technology supporting speeds of up to 10 Gbps, Northland is bridging the digital divide one connection at a time.
What Does It Mean to Be All Fiber Certified?
The Fiber Broadband Association’s All Fiber Certification is awarded to providers whose networks are at least 90% fiber-based. This ensures that customers can enjoy the unparalleled speed and reliability that only fiber-optic technology can provide. Northland’s business and residential networks easily exceed this benchmark, offering everything from high-speed internet and data services to voice and unified communications.
Northland’s latest initiative, a 60-mile NTIA Middle Mile build, will extend fiber access to 700 underserved households, enabling them to access dependable high-speed internet for the first time.
“Our goal has always been to connect communities with technology that can keep up with today’s demands and tomorrow’s innovations,” says Scott Tyler, Vice President of Operations at Northland Communications. “This certification validates the work we’ve done to make that a reality.”
A Growing Partnership with the Fiber Broadband Association
Northland Communications isn’t just certified; it’s also an active member of the Fiber Broadband Association. This partnership opens doors to resources, education, and collaboration with other broadband leaders. Together, these members work to accelerate fiber deployment across North America and close the digital equity gap.
“Service providers like Northland are using fiber to empower communities and meet the broadband needs of the future,” said Gary Bolton, President and CEO of the Fiber Broadband Association. “We’re excited to celebrate their certification and welcome them to our community.”
As part of this collaboration, Northland is staying at the cutting edge of industry trends while expanding its efforts to bring fiber to underserved areas through projects like the NTIA Middle Mile Grant.
Fiber First: Investing in Communities
Northland’s investment in fiber isn’t just about infrastructure—it’s about people. By ensuring 100% fiber passings for business customers and 99% fiber passings in its Oneida County Rural Telephone territory, the company is transforming how communities connect and communicate. Businesses benefit from faster, more reliable connections, while residents gain access to services that enhance their quality of life.
From voice and UCaaS to high-speed internet and data solutions, Northland is proving that fiber isn’t just the future—it’s the present. And with its All Fiber Certification, the company is doubling down on its commitment to creating a more connected, equitable region.
